More great moments: monkey see, monkey do edition
Isaac likes to copy much of what we do and say. The "say" part has led to some classic I-should-discipline-you-but-first-I-need-to-quit-laughing moments. A few examples:
*In Indianapolis, after Meemaw shot Pawpaw with some sassmouth, it was a little tough to get him to quit saying, "Oh shut up, Pawpaw."
*Driving in the car with Mommy at the helm, while Mommy is getting impatient at the people who just won't GO, dang it, when the light is green, Isaac says, "Let's go, nerds!" (from Mommy)
*Urging the whole family to hurry up as we're trying to enter the house, Isaac says, "Come ON, wieners!" (from Daddy)
*Isaac deciding the dairy section of the grocery store (what IS it with the dairy section?) is the place to loudly try out a special phrase of mysterious origin, and then repeat it ad nauseam: "Oh sh&%, Mama. Oh sh&%, Mama."
-------
But tonight we were also treated to some exceedingly special instances of our monkey being polite, in ways that he's only learned from watching us.
*At dinner, Dada usually makes a point of asking Isaac what he did that day. Today, as we all sat down for dinner, Isaac turns to Dada and asks, "Dada, what you do today? You work with Lisa and Erica [Dada's grad students]?"
*This evening, after bringing the O'Neal Family Dance Party to our basement in a most awesome way, we all headed up to the living room for a little TV before bed. Isaac took his place in the middle of the couch; I sat down in my designated nursing chair to nurse Jacob to sleep. Now, I never remember the things that I want to have while I'm nursing -- a glass of water, a blanket to drape over the Jakester to keep him toasty -- until I have already begun, and I usually ask Dada to get them for me, with the accompanying earful of "why didn't you get that before you sat down" and whathaveyou. Tonight, I didn't have to ask. Isaac saw me getting ready to "give Jakey his snack" and of his own volition brought Jacob's quilt over to me from where it lay on the couch. "Mommy, you and Jakey want blanket?" he asked.
Oh, my heart -- if it keeps melting like this, will I ever be able to scrape it off the floor?

How sweet. He is already starting to think about other people.
It will just keep melting and you will never be able to scrape it all up. Don't worry, it is an infinitely renewable resource and doesn't stain carpets.
That is just the sweetest thing I've heard all day! They can be so adorable.
